There are books which take you places, books that nurture and entertain you, books that help you to pass lazy hours and books that take you with every word deeper into other worlds and keep you there turning the pages.

Zabriskie Books began its life as a boutique bookshop in Bondi. One of our features was the monthly author talks and dinners which we held at local venues, showcasing emerging and established authors from around Australia. These became very popular.

Now as publishers we want to continue the conversation started at these events by publishing stories that inspire, and works that can be cherished. We see publishing as a collaboration between the publisher, the author and the designer - not only a fulfilling reading experience, but a beautifully crafted object as well.

Zabriskie Books publishes a small number of titles each year in various genres and welcomes unsolicited manuscripts.

Manuscripts must be submitted with a full proposal or book outline.  All documents should be double-spaced.

Please include the following items in your submission:

- author biography

- synopsis (500 words max)

- your target audience

- list of similar books in the same genre.

Zabriskie Books also provides a range of publishing services to potential writers and artists through our custom imprint RZ Publishing.

We can help articulate your idea and  provide editorial and structural advice.

Advise or manage the project - it's up to  you.

In the creation of your book, we can do as little or as much as you want.

Niki Zubrzycki

Niki has been around books and readers for a long time. On postings with journalist husband John Zubrzycki in South-east Asia and India she started reading manuscripts for friends. She then went on to read for several publishers both in Australia and abroad. After returning to Sydney she continued as a freelance manuscript assessor while working part time at an independent bookshop.

It was in 2008 that she opened her own bookshop at Bondi Beach. Eventually the desire to make books was stronger than the desire to sell them. And Zabriskie Books was born.
